Just like that term 2 comes to end. It has been an awesome term at Gore Main School and we want to thank you all for your support. We have had some awesome achievements and lots of amazing learning with our Inquiry work on Space and within our Structured Learning Programmes. Today your child brought home their Mid Year Report which outlines their progress with reading, writing and maths, and if they are tracking to meet expectation by the end of the year. On the 16th-17th of July we will be holding Parent/Teacher Interviews for you to come and discuss your child's progress. See attached article to book your appointment with your classroom teacher.
Last Friday our Room 9 children had their work on display at the Kāhui Whetū Celebration (Matariki Celebration) at the Gore Gardens. Our kids did an fantastic job and the display looked amazing. Well done Room 9. We want to thank Jacqui Byars for giving our tamariki this opportunity. (See attached photos)
This week the Board of Trustees met to go over our monthly reports and to review our Mid Year Achievement Data. There have been so many changes to the NZ Curriculum in the last year and this was the opportunity to see if how we implemented these changes has worked. Our big focus has been around maintaining our structured approach but we have also made some changes to our writing programme. At the end of 2024 we had 79% of our tamariki working at the level for writing. I am happy to report that we now have 88% of the children working at the level. This is an awesome result and shows that what we are doing at GMS is working.
Next term some of our Year 5-6 students will be competing in the Southland Speech Competition. They are currently working hard at writing their speeches and starting the process of memorising these before Round 1 of the competition, which is here at school on the 6th of August. Form this round, 3 will go through to Round 2.
The Principal Award Winner for this week is: Toby Brown for becoming our Poetry Champion for 2025.
That's about it for this week whānau. Have a great holiday, stay safe and see you on the 14th July.
