What's Up Mr Puna?
Kia ora e te whānau
It has been a great few weeks at GMS with lots of learning, practicing and performing. Polyfest is just around the corner and the group is getting excited and the performance is starting to come together nicely. We also have a visit from the Ensign on Monday who are coming to do an article on the group.
Yesterday we held the Year 5-6 Southland Speech competition to pick the 3 students who will represent us at Round 2 next week. Well done to Ada who placed 1st, Ruby who placed 2nd and Indi C who placed 3rd, and all the best for Round 2. From here 2 students will go through to the Central Eastern Competition being held on the 28th August at Winton School. We want to congratulate everyone from GMS who entered the competition and for all the hard work you put into your speech this year.
Board elections closed last Wednesday and I want to thank everyone who put their names forward. It is now up to our parent community to vote and select 5 of the candidates who will then become the new Board of Trustees for Gore Main School. Ensuring that GMS stays on the right track is extremely important so please vote to ensure that this happens. Please carefully read through the list of candidates and cast your vote. Voting information will be in the mail some time in the next week or so.
Swimming starts next week for our juniors. Room 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be busing to the pools for their lessons. Please ensure that your child has everything they need and if you have any questions please contact your classroom teacher.
Room 9 were away on our annual Year 6 ski trip today. I want to thank everyone who made this trip possible and especially to our parent helpers and Miss McArthur and Mrs Bensemann for ensuring another successful trip.
Principal Award - This weeks principal award goes to 2 students who have been helping out around school and not once complaining. They are always willing to help and look after younger children. I have been extremely impressed with the kindness and respect that they show to their teachers and peers.
The principal award for this week goes to Liam Welsh and Kora Mercer.
That's about it for this week whānau. Please read through the rest of the newsletter as there are some important dates for you to remember. Kia pai te mutunga wiki, have a great weekend.
